Our story
Back in 2004, after years spent building corporate careers, we decided to start a wine business, importing top quality European wines from little-known wine producers - The Wine Keller was born.
Our passion for wine, food, travel and culture combined with our business, sales and marketing career experience enabled The Wine Keller to grow rapidly, with an impressive list of private customers, supplying wine to major UK hotels, hotel chains and top restaurants - including Cliveden House Hotel in Taplow, Corrigans, Trishna, The Orrery and Bentley’s Oyster Bar in London and the Vineyard in Stockcross, Newbury.
Despite its success however, the timing wasn’t right and family commitments led us to put our wine ambitions on hold, knowing that one day we would pick it up again when the time was right.
After many more years in corporate life and raising our two boys, we found ourselves wanting to go back to our shared passion of wine and travel. This time we didn’t want to simply buy and sell wine, we wanted to help people discover and realise their own passion for wine and travel, to experience wine from behind the label, through the growing world of wine tourism. We also wanted to help promote the amazing wine tourism destinations we were discovering, along with the fantastic winemakers and their fabulous wines!
We are enormously fortunate to now have more time to explore and appreciate the amazing people, traditions, lands and stories that make up the wine in our glass - and our greatest passion is to help others enjoy the same experiences!
Some things we believe in:
Wine and travel together is a match made in heaven
Wine is one of life’s greatest pleasures, a drink to savour and to share and to appreciate with those we love
Wine provides the passport to experience what lies behind the label - the people, their country, their passions, their culture, their traditions
Every wine lover should have the opportunity to discover and properly experience beautiful wine regions which may be new to them
If you enjoy wine, you deserve to explore wines that have been made with love, provenance, honesty, and respect for nature and our environment – and to experience where these wines have come from, how they are made and the people who have made them
Sustainability - environmental, economic, social - is the only choice for the future
Smaller, family winemakers should be able to fairly compete with the mass producers
